Wis. fire, EMS facility outfitted with solar panels, thanks to local grant

JEFFERSON, Wis. — The fire and EMS facility in Jefferson recently had solar panels installed with help from Jefferson Utilities, Jefferson Fire & EMS announced recently on Facebook .

The energy provided from the panels is expected to supply about 38% of the Jefferson Fire & EMS facility’s energy needs, leading to an annual cost savings of about $3,600.

“The Fire & EMS facility had a unique opportunity to take advantage of a renewable energy grant through Jefferson Utilities and WPPI Energy,” said Scott Adler, utility manager for Jefferson Utilities. “It’s an exciting project that will save taxpayers money in reduced energy costs, while also lowering our community’s carbon emissions. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

The newly installed solar panels can also help contribute toward Mayor Dale Oppermann’s goal of becoming a “solar city,” the Watertown Daily Times reported .

Jefferson Utilities is the community’s locally owned, not-for-profit utility. It is a member-owner of WPPI Energy, a not-for-profit wholesale energy provider and joint action agency.
