SD medic receives $25K 'hero' grant

The money is to go toward the purchase of AED units and training to establish medical first responder programs throughout the reservation

MCLAUGHLIN, S.D. — Critical care paramedic and CPR instructor Jon Edwards of McLaughlin, S.D., was notified Thursday that he is the recipient of a $25,000 Jenny Jones Heroes grant.

Jones, a former national talk show host, will donate the money to Edwards to establish medical first responder programs in communities on the Standing Rock Reservation.

Edwards was selected from thousands of applicants to receive the grant. The money is to go toward the purchase of AED (automated external defibrillator) units and training to establish medical first responder programs throughout the reservation.
