Pa. EMS gets $58K FEMA grant

PHILIPSBURG, Pa. — Some Centre County first responders are getting a financial boost from the federal government.

On Saturday, Senator Bob Casey, D-Pa., made the announcement that Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services in Philipsburg will be receiving a package of $58,249 in grant money.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security, is awarding the grants. The funds are part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

According to FEMA, the program has been providing equipment, gear, vehicles, training and more to fire departments and other first response agencies for 13 years. The goal is to help “meet the firefight and emergency response needs” of fire departments and EMS groups.

“Pennsylvania’s firefighters endure risk and sacrifice every day to keep their community safe,” said Casey. “This money will help provide Centre County’s firefighters with the resources they need to ensure their ssafety and the safety of those they serve.”

MVEMS serves multiple municipalities throughout the Moshannon Valley, providing emergency care and transportation to residents of both Centre and Clearfield counties.

According to Casey, the funds are designated by operations and safety.
