Ohio grant funds EMS training and equipment

The $4,250 paved the way for an emergency responder class for firefighters and equipment upgrades

GENEVA ON THE LAKE, Ohio — Geneva-on-the-Lake Fire Department received two grants that will allow it to provide training classes and equipment upgrades.

The 2013-2014 EMS Ohio Grant award of $4250 allowed the department to hold an emergency responder class last summer and purchase new EMS equipment, said Andy Kaschalk, President of Geneva-on-the-Lake Fire Department, Inc.

The grant will also allow the department to replace the interior lights in a squad vehicle with LED lights. A new inverter was already installed in the squad vehicle, he said. Kaschalk is preparing to apply for the 2014-2015 EMS Ohio Grant. He said the department applies every year.
