Ind. grant helps fund simulated pediatric training

CROWN POINT, Ind. — The Crown Point Community Foundation awarded 16 grants during its recent grant cycle, totaling $55,404.80 in funding for community projects.

Grantees include: Crown Point Music Boosters $3,000; Crown Point High School AP Testing, $2,000; Down Syndrome of NWI, $1,000; Habitat for Humanity of NWI, $1,500; CPHS Vex Robotics Underdogs 1233, $4,500; Cedar Lake Volunteers in Police Service, $2,500; Solon Robinson Elementary School, $1,500; Bulldog Workshop CPHS Transition Program, $750; Crown Point Lacrosse Inc., $3,600; TradeWinds Services Inc., $5,000; The Arc NWI Inc., $3,500; Colonel John Wheeler Middle School English Dept., $1,454.80; Chasing Dreams, $3,000; Lupus Foundation, $2,000; Franciscan Alliance Foundation, $5,000; and Southlake YMCA Hub Run, $2,000.

Funds awarded to the Franciscan Alliance Foundation for Franciscan St. Anthony Health Crown Point Emergency Medical Services Academy were used to purchase a child-size mannequin simulator to train paramedic and emergency medical technician students. The academy trains EMS personnel from 26 area communities and all of those who serve south Lake County departments. Rob Dowling, academy director, said the mannequin allows the academy to offer simulated pediatric patient emergency instruction to students and practitioners in clinical and EMS settings, as advocated by the American Heart Association and the National Registry of Paramedics.
