RUSHVILLE, Ill. — Schuyler Ambulance Service is one of 53 rural emergency response departments in Illinois to receive a grant of up to $4,000 from Compeer Financial through its Emergency Response Equipment Grants.

The grants can be used by departments to update or purchase equipment needed to better serve the communities the departments serve.

The Schuyler Ambulance Service is using its grant to purchase lifting devices to be used during calls.

Karen Schieler, manager of Compeer Giving at Compeer Financial, said the grants are a way to support the work the first responders do within their communities.

“For first responders to give their best, they need to be equipped with the proper tools,” Schieler said. “We recognize the challenges volunteer emergency response departments face with funding, and we hope these grants help give them the life-saving equipment necessary to effectively respond to critical situations.”

Next year, the grant will change its program to include two new grant areas: essential response equipment that include tools used in responses; and responder life-safety need that focuses more on protection and support of the first responders.
