Grants help fund replacement for 25-year-old Ohio radio system

The new system cost more than $6M, and recently went live

Port Clinton News Herald

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — Local law enforcement, emergency responders and even school districts have begun using a new digital radio system in Ottawa County.

In a press conference at the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Stephen Levorchick announced that it has replaced its 25-year-old public safety radio system and launched the new system on Thursday.

Fred Petersen, director of the Ottawa County Emergency Management Agency, said the upgrade took several years of negotiations and began across the county about a year ago, including installing a new tower to boost the signal in the west half of the county.
