ERIE COUNTY -- First responders in Erie and Crawford counties will receive more than $903,013 in state grants for equipment, building or debt improvements.

The grants are from the 2014-15 Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, funded by the state's share of casino slot machine revenues.

Grants to 32 ambulance, paramedic and specialty rescue services average $7,445. Fifty fire departments in the region will receive grants between $11,515 and $14,285.

The amounts aren't huge but will help first responders continue to provide vital services, Erie Fire Chief Tony Pol said.
