Chicago Fire Department ready for Ebola patient transport

A newly equipped ambulance uses a battery-powered pressurized plastic tent and air filtration system

CHICAGO ― The Chicago Fire Department announced its first ambulance equipped to transport patients known or suspected to have Ebola .

The ambulance includes a pressurized plastic tent and battery-powered air filtration system, reported the Chicago Sun-Times .

The pressurized tent, which can be installed in any ambulance, and the air filtration system, including the battery, each costs about $3,000. The purchase is grant funded.

Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson, says the city has ordered two more plastic tent and air filtration systems and eventually wants to have 13 tents. The next two ambulances will be placed in strategic locations around the city to allow for the fastest possible response to a patient any neighborhood.
