Arizona Rural Fire Assistance (RFA) Grant Program

Description: 

Overview:

The Rural Fire Assistance Program is designed to increase firefighter safety and enhance the fire protection capabilities of rural fire departments. Emphasis is placed on departments that protect rural communities of ledd than 10,000 and play substantial role in the protection of federal lands managed by the Department of the Interior (DOI). Funding assistance is limited wildland fire personal protective equipment, wildland fire hand tools, new generation fire shelters along with training shelters, Project 25 compliant radios. Basic wildland training, apparatus purchased from Local Department of Interior units through "negotiated fixed price sale" authority and other equipment.

The maximum allowable federal contribution for each cooperating rural fire department is $20,000. The federal/cooperator cost-share ratio cannot exceed 90/10; the smaller portion being the cooperator's responsibility. Cooperator contributions may be in the form of in-kind service.

Qualifying Projects:

1. Training

2. Equipment: Fire tools/personal protective equipment, retired brush trucks, engines and fixed price sale arrangement, pumps and accessories.

3. Prevention: Training specific to wildland fire management

4. Communications: P-25 compliant hand help, moblie units, base stations and pagers for areas with no cell coverage.

Application Submittal:

The standard application forms must be used. Applicants must complete Attachment C and D in Microsoft Word and submit electronically to the Arizona State Forestry Division by April 9, 2010. A printed copy shall also be mailed and postmarked prior to the deadline of April 9th.
