Rural Assistance Fire Program - Alabama

Description: 

Program Objectives

Provide financial and technical assistance on cooperative fire suppression resources; facilitate safety for all firefighters; maximize efficient and cost effective fire management operations; and enhance wildland fire protection coverage on DOI lands.

Allowable Program Expenditures

The following categories of items are allowable for the FY 2009 RFA program:

1. Personal Protective Equipment and Basic Gear (e.g., gloves, hardhats, wildland Nomex shirts and trousers or coveralls, eye and ear protection, fireline packs, canteens, lanterns and fusees; Class 2 or 3 ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 compliant reflective safety vests (for roadway/roadside incidents)
2. New Generation Fire Shelters and Case (Training shelters also allowable);
3. Communications equipment (P-25 compliant hand-held radios, mobile units for ground vehicles) limit of 1 radio per seat position (i.e. 4-seat engine = 4 radios);
4. Apparatus purchased from local DOI units through “negotiated fixed price sale” authority;
5. Basic Tools/Equipment: hand tools, belt weather kits, hose, fittings and accessories;
6. Wildland fire training
