FDNY Receives $25,000 Grant For Training, Technology and Exercise Equipment

FDNY

Curry MacWilliams Janitschke Underwriters, Ltd. and the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company have partnered to award a $25,000 grant to the FDNY tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the quarters of Engine Company 9/Ladder 6 in Manhattan to purchase equipment to enhance the training and physical fitness of its members.

The grant funds will be used to purchase a digital camera, laptop computer, and television to make customized presentations that deal specifically with the buildings, hazards and environments in the response area for Engine 9/Ladder 6. Funds have also been allocated for the purchase of rescue dummies, to be used during drills to simulate fire victims, and a forcible entry simulator, which is designed to train firefighters on how to gain forcible entry though all types of doors during emergencies. Finally, exercise equipment will be purchased to enhance the physical fitness of the members.

"The Fireman's Fund has been a friend of the FDNY for many years, and their grants help support the fire service by improving the training equipment our members have access to on a daily basis," said Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta. "This grant is especially important because it's going to Engine 9, a satellite company which responds throughout the entire borough, meaning residents in all of Manhattan will benefit from this generous donation."

Since December 2006, Fireman's Fund has awarded the FDNY over $400,000. This is the second grant to the FDNY by Curry MacWilliams Janitschke Underwriters, Ltd.
