DHS announces round 11 of Assistance to Firefighters Grant awards


WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today the 11th round of Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grants, awarding 557 grants totaling $48.5 million to fire departments within the United States.

The primary goal of the AFG grants is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
