Cal Fire to get $2.1 million grant for staffing

OROVILLE, Calif. — Cal Fire-Butte County will receive a $2.1 million Homeland Security grant and be able to add 11 positions to its firehouse staffs if Butte County supervisors authorize a $535,000 expenditure to train and equip them.

Supervisors will consider taking action at a regular meeting on Tuesday.

The grant covers a 24-month period beginning no later than Dec. 22, and will provide for the hiring of six firefighter II positions and five apparatus engineers, the crew members that drive the fire engines.

The terms of the grant call for no Cal Fire-Butte County layoffs during the two-year period.
