Ohio town seeks to pass $1.5 million levy

WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Wayne Township is seeking to pass a five-year, 1.5-mill renewal levy this November in order to maintain the same level of fire protection for its residents.

"It generates about $47,000 annually for us," said Wayne Township Fire Department Chief Ryan McMurray, who stressed that this is a renewal levy and that the department is not asking township residents for any additional money. "This is the money that we operate on. It covers the maintenance of our vehicles and replacement of any of our gear. According to the National Fire Protection Agency, our trucks have to be annually serviced and tested."

The cost of this testing is a minimum of about $350 per truck and that is "just if nothing is wrong with them," said McMurray.
