16th Round of FY2011 SAFER grant awards announced
The sixteenth round of FY2011 SAFER grants was awarded to 22 fire departments across the nation.
SAFER grants have been awarded since 2005 to help increase and maintain staffing of firefighters and have provided more than $500 million in funding.
The grants provide assistance in hiring new firefighters and re-hiring laid-off members and funding programs for recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.
SAFER grants are administered by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the US Fire Administration.
