Conn. town receives grant to build emergency ops center

NORWALK, Conn. — The city of Norwalk has received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that will be used to build and equip an Emergency Operations Center in the city's new fire headquarters.

The grant was received under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Emergency Operations Center Program, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.

The Emergency Operations Center will be under the direction of Fire Chief Denis McCarthy and the Office of Emergency Management. In addition coordinating response to emergencies, the space will be used for local and regional training programs for first responders, community partners and volunteers.
