Description: The Rural Fire Assistance (RFA) grant program is designed to support the fire protection capabilities of rural and volunteer fire departments (population or 10,000 or less) that typically fight fires near or on Department of the Interior (DOI) lands. Funding will be used to provide technical assistance, training, supplies, equipment and public education support to rural fire departments, thus enhancing firefighter safety and strengthening wildland fire protection capabilities. DOI lands are administered by one of the following four agencies: Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Park Service (NPS).
